Manchester City reached matchweek six with a perfect record and the best goal difference in the league. The top of the table is clean, but the test Anfield represents hasn't come yet: an opponent with the quality and the home advantage to change the tone of a season. Sunday delivers that answer.
Before that, Saturday redistributes the top four. Brighton, Brentford, Leeds, Liverpool and Everton are packed into a narrow band of the table — separated by a margin any weekend result can widen or wipe out. Arsenal, second, host Leeds with the chance to open up a gap on that pack or see the rival cross into it.
Standings, results and the fixtures to come are on the full Premier League table.
City lead with a perfect record and Arsenal are the only rival still close to the top; both play this weekend, in completely different games
What it changes: If Arsenal beat Leeds on Saturday and City lose at Anfield on Sunday, the round ends with the lead changing hands — two results change everything at the top
The game that settles it: Liverpool x Manchester City
Brighton, Brentford, Leeds, Liverpool and Everton sit in the same points band between third and seventh, and all of them play this weekend
What it changes: Saturday can pull two or three clubs clear of the pack, or keep everything open and leave the top four unresolved for another week
The game that settles it: Aston Villa x Brentford
Tottenham and Fulham are at the bottom with campaigns below expectations from the start; Tottenham travel to Manchester United, who haven't got going either
What it changes: Whoever loses at Old Trafford starts the second half of the round depending on other results to get out of it, and that route rarely ends well without consistency of results
The game that settles it: Manchester United x Tottenham

Aston Villa v BrentfordSat, 10 Oct · 11:00amHome36%Draw28%Away38%The market reads the game as open, making it a real measure of where both clubs stand: Villa need points at home to leave the lower table; Brentford need an away win to prove the top four isn't temporary
What the result changes: A Brentford defeat away opens the top four to more candidates and weakens the case for them as a consistent contender; a Villa win could be the start of a recovery the table doesn't show yet
After the whistle: How Brentford respond to away pressure when the opponent is desperate for points — the club has solid results at home, but this trip has a different dynamic

Arsenal open the slate at home to Leeds with opposite aims in view: second want to open a gap on the European pack; fifth want to force their way into a top-four fight with no clear hierarchy yet. A comfortable result for either side changes how the block reads before the afternoon games.
Aston Villa and Brentford settle more than the kick-off time suggests. Villa sit in the lower table and host a top-four side that needs an away win to pull clear of the clubs coming up behind. The market reads the tie as open, and that reading captures how hard it is to call a game where the two sides have motivation of a different level but similar weight.
Manchester United and Tottenham close the slate in a meeting of two clubs who aren't where they expected to be. Both arrive at matchweek six with campaigns that have opened more doubts than answers, and the loser starts the second half of the round depending on factors outside their control.
What this opens up for the rest of the round: Saturday hands Liverpool and Manchester City the real state of the table before Sunday's meeting: depending on what happens in the top four and at the bottom, the two arrive with completely different readings of what the result is worth to each.

City arrived at this round with a perfect record, but their earlier opponents didn't bring the combination Anfield offers: a hostile atmosphere and real quality at the same time. Liverpool aren't at their best this season, but they have the history and the home context that make this game different from anything City have played.
Coventry and Newcastle end the week on Monday, with Coventry under pressure to take points at home to get out of real trouble. Newcastle are inconsistent enough to leave the result open. What looks like a closing-act game is, in practice, what settles the relegation picture after a full round has been digested.
